Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. she is a TV anchor. She earned an undergraduate degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell was hired as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981, she began working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. In 1992, she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget and arms control. She traveled along with President Ronald Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss topics like the Iran Contra scandal.
